    Superb

Excellent location, beautiful architechture and. Decor in the public areas. Palatial overall. Restaurant is beautiful, food is OK, staff a bit too busy, they cram everyone to the bar area, complaining they are short staffed, hard to get attention. Gives you time to study the splendid decor, ceiling, pictures. Others resorted to layoing cards while waiting. Would have liked to sit in the middle or back part of the restaurant, but they refused to serve there, eventhough some people were eating there. With the high prices of the food and drinks, they could have hired a few extra servers.

Valet is $48, find it a bit steep. Parked on the street (free), was a bit worried as there were some seedy areas a few blocks away. Also the price of the room is a bit pricey for the size of the room.

I liked the spacious room size, traditional and elegant style, and the historical aspect( I did the Saturday hotel tour). I especially enjoyed the Japenese breakfast that was delivered to my room and the Dimmer switch in the bathroom is a nice feature. The hotel staff provided impeccable service. I will come back to the Palace Hotel.

The only thing I can think of that would make it a bit more relaxed, more like home for me, would be to have a dimmer switch in the lamp next to the bed :)

    Superb

    Very central

The walls of the rooms are very thin- for a luxury hotel and the amount it costs, I was quite annoyed to be woken numerous times on all three nights by people screaming and shouting in the rooms either side of me. Not great if you want a quiet stay!

    Very good

Pretty nice rooms but not great value for the money. Hotel staff was great and helpful. Beautiful old school hotel but could use some upgrades. Beds were very comfortable.

The pool area was gross and dirty. The ground was covered in hairs and I even saw a bandaid on the ground at the edge of the pool. This was like this both times we went to the pool with our little daughter and made me feel nauseous. Overall the pool should be cleaned way more often and is in dire need of an upgrade. The hotel in general could use an upgrade but not too bad for about $200 a night. Having to deposit $300 for staying there was a strange request as I had already given my credit card.

    Fabulous

I have stayed 3 times. First for Wed. Reception. Very nice. 2 Times to meet up with friends. Enjoyed the lap pool and spa. Room service was pricey but very good. The location is perfect for visiting the city. There were candy wrappers behind the bedside table but only discovered them because I needed to plug into an outlet. Nice services. Bag claim and valet parking, although there was some confusion when we first arrived and we were late to an engagement, Enjoyed the city. Pier 1, Embarcadero (sp), Peir 39, Took a ferry to Solsoleto (sp). Shopping. Took the trolley up and down California street and a 2 hour open double decker bus tour around the city. Here with my daughter and to show a friend from Australia the city for the first time. Thank You! It was fun to splurge a bit on a nice place.

Gorgeous looking hotel in great location

What started off as a great experience at The Palace rapidly soured for us. After a long haul flight from Australia to San Francisco, arriving around 7:00 pm at the hotel, we were grateful to be welcomed by a helpful, smiling and cheerful doorman who took care of parking our rental car without hesitation. Things went down-hill from there. Check- in at the front desk was smooth, although when we arrived at our room, it had a king size bed - not the two double bed junior suite we had booked for us (2 adults) and our 4 year-old. Where the front desk person thought the child was going to sleep is beyond me, but after trudging back to the front desk, we were given the room we booked. On arrival in our new room, we discovered there was no mini bar (although there is a fridge), so we placed an order with room service for drinks and some pre- dinner snacks, intending to shower and then eat in the hotel's restaurant or nearby afterwards. When the drinks didn't appear after 45 minutes, we had no option but to order in-room dining as the 4 year-old (exhausted and jet-lagged, not to mention thirsty and hungry after the flight from Australia) was beyond doing anything but weeping and collapsing in bed, so while my husband chased the drinks order and placed a meal order for us, I raced across the road to get McDonalds for the 4 year-old so he could at least eat something. Just over 90 minutes after placing the drinks order and 50 minutes after placing the room service order, the food arrived, followed by the drinks and pre-dinner snacks, but only after we asked where on earth they were. Given we spent considerably more on food and drinks than 1 nights accommodation (which would have been cheaper at rack rate than if we'd pre-booked), I was feeling more than a little cranky by this time. At 11:00 pm, and after 1 hours fitful sleep, the four year-old was woken by a 'phantom' phone call to our room (no one on the line when we answered).

I love architecture and the Palace is rich in the architecture of the turn of the century. I loved the displays with historic artifacts. I also loved the Pied Piper bar. The Garden Court is a jewel and dining in it is an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.

The walls were a little thin - I could hear the people next door. But this may have been the vents.
